Voile Tonnerre joined the UK Sailmakers group in January 2005. In that short time this established French loft has gone from Voile Tonnerre to UK France Atlantic to UK-Halsey France Atlantic -- that's quite a bit of change for a loft has been a family business since since 1934. In 70 years the loft has grown to be a large shop on the southern coast of Brittany in the city of Lorient. The business employs 26 people who cover sailmaking, rigging, canvas and also includes a chandlery. They have a strong reputation for making top sails for 40-80 foot cruising boats, classic gaff-rigged boats, square riggers and modern mini transAt racers. Loft owner Christophe Tonnerre plans to work closely with Alain Janet’s UK loft on the Mediterranean, which produces fast racing sails.
