UK-Halsey Seattle was established in 1984 by Gray and Carolyn Hawken and sail designer Doug Christie. It took very little time for the locals to embrace 'the Kiwis' sailmaking talents, and more importantly our dedication to servicing our customers. By 1988 we had made the change from importing the sails from New Zealand, to full manufacturing capability. By 1990 we had our own vacuum bed plotter/cutter and had opened another loft in Anacortes 80 miles north of Seattle. The 1996 merger with Halsey Sailmakers added a truly global atmosphere to a local sail loft and more recently merging with the UK group has strengthened our position as a key member of one of the finest Sailmaking organizations in the world. UK-Halsey Seattle remains as creative design loft on the leading edge of sailmaking. Whether it is a mainsail for a Maxi or a jib for an I-14, each and every sail is the result of design experience spanning 30 years backed by technology that is second to none.
CORUBA, the Nelson/Marek 68 owned by Rob and Suzanne Fleming, pictured above is a banner boat for the designs from our Seattle Loft. Here she's surfing to a back-to-back in the Seattle Yacht Club's Grand Prix regatta (2003 and 2004).
