SUPER YACHTS AND MAXIS GO FOR TRANSATLANTIC RECORD

Twenty-one Super Yachts will be racing from New York Harbor across the Atlantic in hope of breaking the schooner ATLANTIC's 1905 record of 12 days, four hours and one minute. Many boats have sailed this course faster than ATLANTIC, but no boat has broken the record as part of a race; all the modern transatlantic records were set by boats that chose their starting times based on favorable weather forecasts.

UK Sailmakers in Hamble provided sails for Peter Harrison's beautiful Farr 115-foot SOJANA (top) to use in the Transatlantic Challenge starting May 21st. For the race, UK Sailmakers is making a Code Zero, Heavy Jib and Genoa Staysail, all out of Cuben Fibre. UK Hamble is servicing this important client in conjunction with Andy Halsey of Halsey Lidgard Sailmakers. UK Hamble is also delivering a fully battened Tape-Drive main to the classic S&S; 80-foot ketch TEMPEST for the race. UK Italy made sails for Carlo Falcone's 1938 80-foot yawl MARIELLA (above left).
