George Shaws Cavalier 37, BOOTS has been cleaning up in southeast Australia for the last 21 years. Over the last two decades, she has logged over 160,000 nautical miles. BOOTS sails in club races on Port Phillip Bay three days a week, competes in all the ocean races as well as being cruised socially and has been available to take disadvantaged community members for sailing experiences.
BOOTS has never failed to complete an ocean race. Recently, BOOTS placed third in her IRC division in the 2004 Sydney-Hobart, won both Queenscliff to Hastings classic races and was awarded the Bavarian Trophy, was second overall in the 2004 eight-race ocean series.
This year BOOTS has already won the 85-mile Tam OShanter race ( IRC), which is sailed around Port Phillip Bay, won the Port Phillip Sea Pilots long distance double-handed race and won the annual Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadrons three-day womens keel boat regatta, with an all female crew.
BOOTSs next major challenge will be to compete in the inaugural Melbourne to Vanuatu race scheduled for 2006. Stay tuned.
George Shaw points out that UK-Halseys Mark Remington has been the boats exclusive sailmaker for the last 21 years. A record like that speaks volumes!
