February 4, 2009 J/24 ARAMID GENOA DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM UNDERWAY
After the International J/24 Class Association voted to allow the use of aramid fibers in the construction of class genoas, UK-Halsey Houston started working on making their fast class genoa’s faster yet. Aramid is the generic name for yarns such as Dupont’s Kevlar. The fourth edition of this ocean race was won by Philippe Paturel on CIAO!, an Archambault 35 fully geared with UK-Halsey MatriX sails developed by Sylvain Barrielle from the San Francisco loft. While the world’s press focused on the most exotic and expensive sailboats in this year’s Newport to Bermuda ocean race, a trio of “well-sailed” production sail boats swept the top three places in the most competitive “professional” division of this biennial classic ocean race. UK-Halsey International is happy to announce the latest addition to the group. Victory Sailmakers in Halifax, Nova Scotia has just signed a licensing agreement to become UK-Halsey Maritimes.
