| To
help sailors get used to the Time On Time scoring used by IRC, we
are offering a calculator that can be used to judge how you are doing
against your competition on the course and let you figure out approximately
who won before the official results have been posted. To
operate the calculator, enter your boat name and rating and the
boat names and ratings of your competitors from the regatta’s
scratch sheet before you go racing. The calculator will create a
table showing who owes you time and how much time you owe others
over a range of durations. Since the math used in time on time is
linear, if a race took one hour and 30 minutes, add the time factor
giving for 1 hour to the time factor for 30 minutes to find how
much you owe or are owed. The tables can be printed out so that
you can take them aboard when you go racing.
